CONSTRUCTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

Environmental management is an important component in construction and development projects.

Damage to both the environment and to the client can be significant (particularly financially) without practical, easy to follow environmental controls.

Biodiverse Environmental ecologists and environmental scientists have extensive experience across many environmental disciplines and hands-on experience on private and commercial construction, development and energy/mining projects.

Our clients include large national energy companies, local councils, State Government agencies, developers and civil construction companies, as well as local landowners.

We offer practical environmental management solutions that work to minimise delays and costs for our clients, whilst delivering smart and sustainable environmental outcomes.

Biodiverse Environmental can represent your company on your next project and manage all aspects of environmental planning, compliance and day to day operations, including Fauna Spotter Catching.

We have direct access to government regulators and strong legislative knowledge to take the leg work out of your project. We can liaise with regulatory agencies on your behalf and help facilitate compliance for your business.

Our construction and environmental services include:

  • Environmental advising (project management, fulltime senior level environmental onsite representation or site assessment)
  • Development of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs)
  • Development of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (signed off by a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC)) and implementation of plans
  • Environmental monitoring, compliance and auditing
  • Surface and ground water monitoring
  • Soil sampling and management
  • Water, air and waste management
Site restoration (rehabilitation and revegetation planning and delivery)
  • Biosecurity and weed management
  • Vehicle and plant weed hygiene certification
  • Fauna Spotter Catcher services
  • Fauna management
  • Nest box installation and monitoring

PROJECTS

Below is a selection of construction and environmental projects

Project 1

Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) Railway Upgrade Project – 2021 – 2023

Biodiverse Environmental was engaged to undertake the environmental management pre and during construction of a significant railway upgrade on the Sunshine Coast.  A preclear weed survey was undertaken with particular reference to koalas that may be impeded by weed incursion.  The results of the survey informed our weed management crew who undertook herbicide application via our ATV due to the boggy conditions.

As clearing commenced, our fauna spotter catchers assisted in animal recovery and relocation with preclear surveys and animal capture.  A large dam was also dewatered with fish and eels relocated to a nearby waterway.

A follow up weed survey was conducted one year to determine the extent of weeds following the construction.

Project 2

Gas Pipeline Ecological Surveys Central Qld -2023

As part of a major gas infrastructure project, Biodiverse Environmental was engaged to undertake ecological surveys as part of the Environmental Authority (EA) for the project at various locations in central Queensland.

Our ‘suitably qualified’ principal ecologist undertook desktop analysis on regional ecosystem mapping, Prescribed Environmental Matters and ecological other values.  The sites were then surveyed where there was to be significant disturbance by conducting flora and fauna assessments, waterway investigations and determining the presence of weeds and pest animals.

Where environmental values differed from mapped values, methodology was written to account for these.

Biodiverse Environmental also assisted with the supply of fauna spotter catchers for the fauna management during clearing works.

Project 3

Water Pipeline Infrastructure Tree Assessment – 2023

As part of a major recycled water infrastructure project, Biodiverse Environmental was engaged to undertake a tree health and ecological assessment of vegetation that was potentially impacted by horizonal directional drilling (HDD) and trenching works.  Of particular concern was the potential impact on the Guardian Tree which was culturally significant to the local First Nations People.

Our arborist conducted a tree health assessment by determining the Tree Protection Zone (TPZ) and Structural Root Zone (SRZ) for each tree within the infrastructure footprint.  Recommendations were provided in tree impact given tree species and rooting structure, drilling depth and geological substrate.

Our ecologist undertook an ecological survey of the area for fauna and habitat values providing advice on clearing methodology and fauna management during clearing activities.

Project 4

MJ Smith Group contracted Biodiverse Environmental to carry out fauna management activities during clearing and grubbing in November 2020 for the construction of Stratheden by Arrow Energy . Pre-clearance surveys were conducted on site prior to the commencement of works to identify fauna, breeding places or habitat present. A Fauna Spotter Catcher was present for all works to capture and relocate any fauna identified in accordance with legislative and environmental management requirements.

Biodiverse Environmental continues to provide ongoing fauna spotter catcher services to the MJ Smith group when required. Our Senior Environmental Advisor who completes fortnightly onsite environmental management and compliance work.

Project 5

Development Works – 2020

Biodiverse Environmental carried out fauna spotter catcher works for Pembroke Construction in 2020 for stage 1 of the Heights Estate Development. A preclearance survey was conducted by a fauna spotter catcher from Biodiverse Environmental. The pre clearance survey was conducted to locate fauna, potential habitat features and animal breeding places and relocate any fauna that would have been impacted by vegetation clearing and earthworks to a suitable habitat in accordance with legislative and environmental management requirements. A fauna spotter catcher was present during all vegetation clearing activities to capture and relocate any fauna identified to mitigate potential impacts from work.
